GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE)
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission into the Masters Program and Recruitment by some Public Sector Companies. GATE Examination is conducted jointly by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkee & Indian Institute of Science at Bengaluru on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, The Department of Higher Education, Ministry
of Education (MoE), Government of India.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily assesses the complete comprehension of numerous undergraduate disciplines in engineering and science for admission to Masters programmes and recruitment by select public sector companies. Some of the options available to GATE certified applicants include:
- Admission:
A valid GATE score can be used to gain admission to: (i) Master's programmes and direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and (ii) Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Arts and Science at institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies.- Financial Assistance:
Qualified GATE scores can be used to apply for financial aid for (i) Master's programmes and direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and (ii) Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Arts and Science, at institutions supported by the MoE and other government agencies.
GATE/ GPAT PG Scholarship (https://www.aicte-india.org/schemes/students-development-schemes/PG-Scholarship-Scheme) M.Tech students receive financial assistance of Rs. 12,400 per month for a period of 22 months. (Circular dated February 18, 2015) (Circular dated July 16, 2019)
Financial Asisstance given for Ph.D. Programmes (Direct PhD after BE/ BTech/ MSc. Equivalent with valid GATE score) is Rs. 31,000 per month for first two years and Rs. 35,000 per month from third year to fifth year. (Circular dt. 18th Feb 2015) (Circular dt. 16th July 2019)
Financial support is provided for Ph.D. programmes (direct PhD after BE/ BTech/ MSc. The monthly salary (equivalent to a valid GATE score) is Rs. 31,000 for the first two years and Rs. 35,000 for the third to fifth years. (Circular dated February 18, 2015) (Circular dated July 16, 2019)
