Determination Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in water sample
Inorganic / Analytical Chemistry Practical
- Aim: Determination total dissolved solids in water sample
- Procedure: Take 100 ml beaker and clean up chromic acid and acetone and complete dry. Cool the beaker and weight it. Not the reading as w1.
- Now pipette out 25 ml. water sample and transfer it in the above clean and dry beaker. Evaporate to dryness either on a sand bath or in an oven at 105 C. Cool the beaker and weight it and note the reading as W2.
- Calculation
W1 = weight of empty beaker
TDS = W2 – W1 = A g in 25 ml. of water
= A × 1000 = B mg. in 25 ml. of water
25 ml. water contain = B mg. TDS
1000 ml. water contain = ?
= B x 1000
25
= C mg. in 1000 ml. OR
= C ppm.
- Result
1.
Total dissolved
solid in water
sample = C
